Namungo Green Garnet mine to rutern to mechanised mining.

A significant find of Tsavorite Garnet discovered in February 1999 at Namungo Hill, about 15 kilometres from Ruangwa district of Lindi region in southern Tanzania. The new source triggered 3,000 miners from over Tanzania to rush too the land. Over 100 Tsavorite pits have been dug on less than a square mile of the Tsavorite reef so far.  Tsavorite Garnet is very expensive 5 times than rare found Tanzanite gemstone.

The High Quality of Namungo Tsavorites

The Tsavorite reef has pockets that yield an average 0.5 to 5 kilograms of rough. These Tsavorites are quite gemmy and of exceptional pure Green. Microscopic examination revealed inclusions typical of Tsavorites from Kenya. Fingerprint inclusions, healed fractures and graphite platelets indicate the host rock in which the Tsavorite formed.

In, 2009 just 100 metre from Green Garnet new discovery of Gold occurred to attract artisanal miners to rush for gold and abandon the Green Garnet mine. But because of increase of price of Tsavorite and decreasing of Gold grade, the miner owner turned eye to develop Tsavorite mine for massive production.
