October has been an outweighing month for victims of sexual assault following a floodgate of accusations on accounts of sexual abuse mostly directed to powerful men in the world.
Only a few weeks ago, Kenya Hollywood actress Lupita Nyongo came forward to report the “most powerful Hollywood producer” Harvey Weinstein of sexually assaulting her at the kick off of her career.
Also in Kenya, TV personalities including Anita Nderu and Adelle Onyango, came forward under the hashtag #MeToo to share their sexual assault ordeal.
Today we look into some of the powerful men in the world that have been accused of the vile and despicable act of sexually assaulting women.
1. Kevin Spacey
House of Cards show has suddenly lost its intrigues as a political show after its lead star Frank Underwood has been accused of sexual assault and pedophilia. Anthony Rapp, a Hollywood actor has accused Kevin Spacey of making sexual advances at him when he was 14.
In his allegations, Rapp said Spacey picked him up, put him on his bed and “was trying to get with me sexually” in 1986 when Spacey was 26.
Spacey has since apologised to Rapp through his official Twitter account for carrying “those feelings” for years, terming it as drunken behavior.
In the wake of his apology and as a way of probably diverting attention from the allegations, Spacey came out as a gay, a move that annoyed many.
2. Donald Trump
The campaign of Donald Trump to the White house was marred with sexual accusations after his recording of his repulsive “locker room talk” leaked to the public domain.
According to a Washington Post, 16 women have since come forth to accuse Trump of sexual harassment and to an extent of availing witnesses.
Trump has however denied all the accusations dismissing them as fake news, “All I can say is, it’s totally fake news. It’s just fake. It’s fake. It’s made-up stuff, and it’s disgraceful, what happens, but that happens in the — that happens in the world of politics,” Trump told reporters.
However Trump has been served by one of the accusers, Summer Zervos who claimed Trump kissed her twice on the lips during a lunch meeting in his New York office and had another encounter in Beverly Hills where he kissed her aggressively and touched her breast.
The White house is yet to respond but recently said all the women who have accused him of sexual misconduct are “liars”.
3. Harvey Weinsten
Kenya’s import to Hollywood, Oscar-award winning Lupita Nyong’o is among 45 women who allegedly fell victim of the latches of a sexual predator in Hollywood, who just happens to be the most notable producer yet.
In an opinion piece in The New York Times, Lupita came forward with a heartbreaking story of how Harvey sexually assaulted and harassed her when she was trying to find a footing in the multi-billion dollar acting industry.
Women have since come forth to confess of their sexual abuse experiences, a situation CNN terms the Weinsten’s ripple effect.
“It started a flood of new accusations from dozens of other women, including some who said Weinstein had raped them. Weinstein has denied any claims of non-consensual sex. He was later fired from his own film company and his wife left him,” CNN reported.
4. Bill Cosby
A man who once filled the world with limitless laughter through his famed TV program “The Cosby Show” allegedly left a blueprint of trauma and pain behind the scenes for over 50 women.
Cosby has been accused of rape, drug facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse and sexual misconduct by 50 women from all walks of life.
The comedian has however denied all the sexual abuse accusations directed at him by pleading not guilty, this has cost him several awards that were revoked from him.
5. Bill Clinton
Clinton’s regime will forever be remembered by the Monica Lewinsky’s fiasco, who accused Bill Clinton of sexually assaulting her before admitting that their relationship was consensual.
Hillary Clinton faced the wrath of women and feminists during her campaign for America’s presidency,
accusing her of protecting Bill Clinton when he faced sexual assault and rape charges against women.
Clinton was at the verge of impeachment on abuse of power and perjury after Paula Jones filed a lawsuit against him on sexual harassment. Also, Juanita Broaddrick accused Clinton of raping her in 1978.
