Donald Trump Jr. reportedly spoke briefly last year with a Russian banker with ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Alexander Torshin, a former Russian senator and banker, was introduced to Trump Jr. at a May 2016 event hosted by the National Rifle Association (NRA), CBS News reported, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

They spoke for two to three minutes, according to CBS.

The source told CBS the two didn't talk about President Trump's campaign and mainly discussed firearms.

An attorney representing the president's eldest son said in a statement that Trump Jr. "was attending an NRA convention and having dinner when an acquaintance asked him to say hello to Torshin and made an introduction."

"They made small talk for a few minutes and went back to their separate meals," attorney Alan Futerfas said.

Last week, CBS reported that the Senate Judiciary Committee wants information from White House adviser Jared Kushner about a request he received last year to set up a meeting between Torshin and Trump.

The email chain reportedly said that Torshin wanted to meet with the president. According to CBS News, the request was made through an intermediary.

The email request was forwarded to Trump campaign officials, including former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, before being sent to Kushner, who declined the request.
